The dieDAS walk + talk summit 2024 took place September 6-8 in Saaleck. This year’s inspiring event welcomed esteemed guests from around the globe to reflect on the theme “Material Evidence: The Absence of Land and Labor.”

Following the conclusion of the 2024 dieDAS Fellowship Program, visitors joined dieDAS artistic director Germane Barnes, our fellows, and expert collaborators to explore the built world’s impact on both micro and macro ecologies. Together, we investigated the layered implications of extraction through the lens of environmental and social justice, and asked: What is the morality of extraction? Who builds the monuments that fill our cities? Who determines access to natural resources? What is the input and output of material systems and the impact on labor structures and communities?

Moderated by renowned London-based artist, multidisciplinary designer, and writer Adam Nathaniel Furman, the 2024 program included workshops, presentations, guided tours, and conversations with extraordinary contributors, including:
