Ornamenta Festival
2024

dieDAS collaborators Zeno Franchini and Basse Stittgen participate in panel conversation at the highly anticipated creative event.

From July 5 to September 29, 2024, Germany's Northern Black Forest welcomes the return of Ornamenta, an international celebration of art and design. Taking place across the region, the platform presents site-specific exhibitions, public installations, and events. dieDAS is thrilled to share that two of our wonderful collaborators—dieDAS Fellow Basse Stittgen and Fellow and Head Mentor Zeno Franchini, both accomplished designers in their own rights—participated in the event’s July 14th “Sunday Service” panel conversation, alongside Pastor Julia Kaiser and Malte Dahme of the Matthäuskirche Project Group, to discuss issues around waste materials, im/permanence, and the politics of visibility. The conversation was moderated by Theo Ferreira Gomes and took place at the Matthäuskirche in Pforzheim, at the site of Schmutzige Ecke: An Exhibition on Circularity, Sobriety, and Rubble.

A follow-up to an event first held in 1989, Ornamenta blurs the region’s geographical borders, replacing the existing municipal districts with five thematic neighborhoods—or “Gemeinden”—each investigating topics of local and international significance, from access to clean air to social taboos and technology. Drawing local communities, institutions, and industries together to partner with international creatives, the program is meant to inspire new perspectives across the region.
