Bhavneet Kaur

Bhavneet Kaur is an India-based interdisciplinary artist and designer hailing from Punjab. She considers her creative practice nomadic and informed by situated learning. Kaur works across spatial and editorial design, curation, and artistic research. Her mediums span installations, objects, text, and film. Through her kinaesthetic approach, she explores the thematics of body, identity, ancestral memory, and embodied female knowledge.

Kaur focuses on explorations of non-imperial material culture while navigating social structures dictated by modernity and coloniality. With methodologies shaped by vernacular and indigenous realities, she addresses pluriversality in the Indian context. Her recent project, My Body is a Walking Exhibition, challenges the imperial gaze and traces the colonial roots of exhibition design. It proposes to cover all but eight of the 600+ objects ofthe South Asian Gallery at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London with white Khadi fabric.

Kaur holds a Master's Degree in Contextual Design fromDesign Academy Eindhoven (2023), for which she received a cum laude, and a Bachelor's in Retail and Exhibition Design from MIT-ADT University, Pune(2017). She has also gained a certificate from the distinguished Maria Lugones Decolonial Summer School (2023) hosted by Van Abbe Museum and Utrecht University. Her work has been included in various platforms, including the Dutch Design Week 2023, BASE Milano at Milan Design Week 2024,Printed Matter Inc., The Couch HetHem, and Brown History.
