Svenja Keune

Born in 1986 in Hemer, Germany, Svenja Keune is a Sweden-based artist-designer specializing in dynamic surfaces and installations. She has a doctorate degree from the Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås (2019), as well as master's and bachelor’s degrees in TextileDesign from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (2012 and 2010, respectively). In response to our increasingly digital and virtual interactions, Keune aims to enliven and enrich our physical world through poetic, experimental surfaces, objects, and installations. Her research-driven work explores responsive textile hybrids that integrate plant life and/or electronics, challenging the way we perceive and live with textiles. With environmental responsibility front-of-mind, Keune’s work blurs the boundaries between humans and objects, the physical and the digital, and even inside and outside.

I found almost all the events and lectures really valuable and thought provoking in different ways.”

Keune was a Marie Curie Research Fellow for the ArcInTexETN project at the Swedish School of Textiles (2015-2019). She is also the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, including the Lumen Award (Bremen, 2013) and a DMY Design Award (Berlin, 2012), among others. She has lectured extensively, and her work has been presented at a number of cultural institutions and events, such as Het Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam, 2017), London Design Festival (2015), Ventura Lambrate (Milan, 2013), DMY Design Festival (Berlin, 2012), and the Bauhaus-Archive (Berlin, 2012).
